about

Simon Lloyd is an award-winning Director and Showrunner. He is known for bold and original storytelling across single documentaries, authored films and intervew-driven series.

Simon’s work has been broadcast on the major streamers and has won acclaim internationally. THE WORLD ACCORDING TO JEFF GOLDBLUM (Disney+) was Emmy-nominated and won an LA Critics Choice Award, GAMES THAT ROCK THE WORLD (The Roku Channel) was nominated for a 2024 Buzzies Award and STANLEY TUCCI: SEARCHING FOR ITALY (CNN / BBC) won an Emmy.

Simon’s recent work has focussed on compelling testimony-led narratives. GAMES THAT ROCK THE WORLD told the ground-breaking origins stories of video games first hand, led by interviews with the designers who invented the form. Told with wit and creativity, the series blended animated sequences with clips from science fiction and government information videos, playfully restaging key moments in video game history,

Simon’s films frequently focus on the pioneering figures and trailblazing ideas that have shaped the modern world. GAGA FOR DADA: THE ORIGINAL ART REBELS shone light on the mavericks who invented conceptual art and BAUHAUS RULES explored the revolutionaries who gave birth to the modern art school (“a playful paean to creative freedom and collaborative spirit” - The Telegraph); while PASSIONS: LEONARD BERNSTEIN and TAKING CONTROL: THE DOMINIC CUMMINGS STORY delved into the lives of deeply controversial but no less influential figures in the worlds of music and politics.

Journalistic in approach, Simon’s films have not shied away from difficult subject matter. DWARFS IN ART: A NEW PERSPECTIVE revealed the shocking exploitation of people with dwarfism (“a compelling reappraisal of the overlooked and undervalued” – The Guardian), while BOB & ROBERTA’S EXCELLENT PROTEST ADVENTURE depicted the deep unrest in America on the eve of Donald Trump’s anointment as Presidential nominee.

Conversely, humour is never far from the surface. MIRIAM MARGOLYES: UP FOR GRABS (“a joy from start to finish” – The Times) opened with the actress accosting passers-by from her front porch while MORECAMBE AND WISE IN AMERICA captured Eric Morecambe’s family with an infectious joy (“may our hearts bubble over with helpless laughter” – The Guardian)
